Large Tibetan Wool Prayer Flags

These Prayer Flags are inspired by Tibetan Prayer Flags. I use only the most colorful Pendleton® wool fabrics. On hand, I have 3 sets at 11 feet long for $110 each, free shipping. You can order any length, at $10 per foot. The length shown in these pictures is about 11'.

**If you want 10', just click on 1 for the number available and add a note about the length you prefer. Currently, I have 3 strings of flags, each at 11' long on hand. I can easily make them shorter or longer, as you prefer.

The last 2 pictures put the large string next to the mini, so that you can compare the sizes.

If you order a different length, please allow a week for your unique order to be created and sent to you. Thank you**

This gorgeous string of Prayer Flags is based on the Tibetan tradition, created from the glorious and colorful patterns of Pendleton wool. According to the Tibet Relief Fund, Tibetan prayer flags are traditionally used to promote peace, wisdom, compassion, and strength. It is commonly thought that prayer flags offer prayers to God. They do not. Tibetans believe the wind will blow the prayers and mantras in to the surroundings, spreading goodwill and compassion.

The colors used for prayer flags are thanks to their pre-Buddhist usage. Native Tibetans used blue, white, red, green and yellow to honor the nature gods of Bon, their shamanistic religion. Each color represents the five elements, in a particular order;

blue for sky or space
white for air or clouds
red for fire
green for water
yellow for earth

As Buddhism grew the flags where adapted to contain Buddhist symbols and mantras, and are hence known as prayer flags.

It is natural that prayer flags fade and fray, indeed they are intentionally left unhemmed for this to happen. This is symbolic of the inevitable passing of all things. New prayer flags can either be hung over the old ones, or the old ones can be taken down and burnt releasing the last of the blessings.

Pendleton Woolen Mills is an American textile manufacturing company in Oregon. Pendleton's wool is long known for it's high quality fabric and iconic colorful and creative geometric designs by the Native American peoples such as Zunis, Navajos and Aztecs, reflecting their spirit, art, community and beliefs. Pendleton has been making world famous wool shirts, blankets, robes and more since 1863.

The Tibetan traditional Prayer Flags created from Pendleton wool represents how we as Americans are multinational and multicultural and come from many faiths. These hand stitched flags have been imbued with my meditations for peace in these difficult times.
